I set this blog up to keep all my political comments in one place.
I am currently a member of The Greens.
I was a member of the Liberal Party of Australia a long time ago, and was endorsed federal candidate in 1993.
These days I admit that in the wonderful parliamentary democracy that is Australia, there are many wise people from all political parties, and many who aren’t even members of a political party. I think our country has succeeded politically because of a robust synthesis of ideas from all parts of of the political spectrum. Although none of them will admit it, our political parties need each other. By themselves they would quickly go off the rails, but the tension that exists between left and right, humanists and fundamentalists, greens and developers… this tension is productive. It usually creates good outcomes for our country, and is a testament to the collective wisdom of the body politic.
That’s not to say they’re angels. Far from it. Politicians need our earnest and fearless criticism. The wise ones will listen which benefits them and us.
I don’t expect everyone to agree with what I write here. I can be unreasonable, and I don’t mind being contradicted. I’d much rather that than being ignored!
I’ve been working as a software developer since the mid 1980’s. I specialize in software for the finance industry, and am really lucky to be working with some amazing people at Expert1.
I don’t know how I managed to be so lucky, but I’m married to Liz, the most amazing woman in the world.
I love riding my mountain bike (currently a Giant XTC 29-1). It’s a great way to explore the world.
I belive in social justice and equality.
